203 Duke Brasfield - Brasfield & Brasfield Attorneys, Covington, Tennessee
TIPTON COUNTY ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Dyersburg State Community College - Dyersburg, Tennessee

Duke Brasfield passed away on Friday, April 9, 2010. Duke was last known to be living in Covington, Tennessee. He received his Juris Doctor in 1975 from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the then Memphis State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972, with overseas duty in the Philippines. He is survived by his wife Martha. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Covington. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church. The Service of Committal will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Dresden, Tennessee, at 3:30 p.m. Memorials should be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Covington, Dyersburg State Community College, or a charity of the donor's choice.

A Covington attorney died Friday in a one-vehicle crash in Fayette County near the Tipton County line. Duke Harris Brasfield, 62, was driving a Chevrolet Suburban on Hendrick Road about 12:30 p.m. when the vehicle didn't stop at a "T" intersection with Sinai Drive, according to Mike Browning, a spokesman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The Suburban struck an embankment, went up a hill and caught fire at some point. Witnesses pulled Brasfield's body from the vehicle. A coroner will investigate whether Brasfield died while driving, rather than as a result of the accident. The crash site is south of Mason, between U.S. 70 and Interstate 40, and about 40 miles northeast of Downtown Memphis. Brasfield was the husband of 25th Judicial District Chancery Court Chancellor Martha Brasfield. He had been the Tipton County attorney since 1985 and also was attorney for the Covington Industrial Development Board, said Bruce Petty, budget and accounts director for county government. Petty said Brasfield was well known across the state and well liked. "It's a shock to everybody," he said.

211 The story my husband's grandmother tells about Eber is that he helped his stepmother, Lula Jane kidnap his half siblings back from the orphanage where they were taken in Tennessee and then fled to Arkansas, which is why a lot of the records are hard to find, they didn't want to be found and sent to prison, or have the children taken away again. This was supposedly after Joseph had passed away and Lula was raising her five plus some of the younger step children. - John and Nicole Dollins

Thank you for the clarification. I do not know if I am related to Eddie Willis Brasfield or not since we don't know who his father was. If I find anything else about who his parents or brothers and sisters were that may lead to understanding his history. If you find out anything more, please let me know.

214 Army, My dad died when I was 8 years old and we have very little information
about him-- we know he inducted at Ft. Oglethorpe in March 1943 as a radio
operator (MOS 740), arrived in Europe on November 17, 1944 and was a POW
from the date of his injury on December 20, 1944 until he was liberated on
April 13, 1945. He left Europe on May 2 and arrived in the US on May 12, 1945.
He apparently was then assigned to Battery A, 576th Field Artillery Batallion at
Ft. Bragg, NC until his discharge on November 23, 1945.

Cross over the freeway on Trosper Road (54th Ave SW) and continue a short distance to Littlerock Road where you turn left. Travel along Littlerock Road and the cemetery will be on your right. Although the land was not acquired by the Catholic Church until 1873, it was evidently used earlier since some of the stones predate that time. The property (slightly over two acres) was part of the Donation Land Claim of Jessie Ferguson. Around 1900 the conditions deteriorated, and a number of the individuals were moved. Many of the pioneers of the area were buried there. BRASFIELD Elinor

226 Dear Mr. Brasfield,
My name is Kimberly Gray Clark. I am Elisha's great great granddaughter. Elisha and Birdie had 1 daughter, Mary Ruth Brasfield. She married Eugene Gray. Elisha and Birdie are buried at the same cemetary my grandfather is. It isn't Pearce Chapel. It is on Hwy. 23 going toward Tremont from Smithville, in a community they lived in known as Turon. I can't remember the name of the cemetary right off hand but if you go just past Bull Mountain Rd on Hwy.23, you will see a small church on your left and just around the curve the cemetary is on the right. They are on the front right beside the drive. My father can probably tell you more than I can. His name is Gary. I hope this information helps you, if you need any information let us know and I can get it from my grandmother, Elisha's daughter.

Sincerely,
The Gray's of Tupelo, Mississippi

239 Hi Michael, While I have the sampler off the wall, I think I will transcribe the back for you. I am no photographer, but I took some pictures of the sampler. I hope they come out. If they are not legible, I will at least transcribe it, but most of it is practicing making the letters. One the back, Marguerite Wallace Kennedy has written: Sampler - done by Elzira M. Brasfield when she was 11 years olf. Born in Madison County, Kentucky, March 28, 1815 Given to daughter - Mary Elizabeth Hocker - Williams Then to her daughter - Louise Marion Williams - Wallace Then to her daughter - Marguerite Wallace - Kennedy Then to her cousin - Nancy Lowrie - Wright in 1971 (great grandaughter of Mary Elizabeth Hocker - Williams) I tried to get some pictures of the back of the sampler also, I don't know how they will turn out. There is some glass on the front of the sampler, every place I put it, I could see myself reflected in the glass. I hope I will have some pictures that don't show my reflection too. I will mail those pictures as soon as I get them developed. Nancy tewright [tewright@cajun.net] 10/17/2001 BRASFIELD Elzira M.

Peal "Randy" audioplus@home.com ********************************* Randy - (9/13/2000) Thanks for the contact. According to my genealogy software "relationship calculator", Eva Irene Brasfield Peal (wife of Josephus Cephas Peal) is a 3rd cousin, once removed. So if you are related to from that union we are probably related also. However, the "calculator" does not show any formal relationship to me through James Henry (Henry J.) Peal or Raspberry B. Peal. I have information on 2 different Ira Brasfields, but no information on a marriage to "Lula Peal". I would appreciate any information that you would be willing to share on Ira and Lula. Again, thank you for taking the time to "write". BRASFIELD Eva Irene

250 Possibly Elizabeth Brasfield, sister of Othnal Minter Brasfield, who married Jane Splawn, sister of Mayberry Splawn, Jr. - but marriage and birth information don't make sense. ******************** Name: Mayberry Splawn Spouse: Frances Brassfield Marriage Date: 20 Dec 1838 Performed By: Christopher Fation Comment: son of Mayberry Marriage Records of Daveiss County, Missouri, 1836-1855 *************************** http://www.hal-pc.org/~splawn/wsplawn/pafn29.htm#1261 A source of info for Mayberry & Frances comes from someone named Norma Cory. Somehow I got in my possession a FGS that was filled out by her. Don't know where it came from. She lists as her sources, 1850 census of Gundy Co Missouri and "Marriage Lic". I believe the reference to marriage lic has to do with a marriage she lists between Mayberry Jr. and Frances Brassfield. Norma has Elizabeth listed as a child of Mayberry and Frances. ****************** William T. McFall Information sent to my by Roy. L. Samie has the Mother of Elizabeth as Frances Brassfield, and her Father as Mayberry Splawn. BRASFIELD Frances
