Catherine Ferguson/peal
Posted by Randy Peal on Tue, 15 Jun 1999
Surname: Ferguson, Peal, Badgett, Brasfield
I'm looking for information about Catherine Ferguson that married Raspberry Peal married (abt. 1845). Raspberry Peal was in the 1850 census for Gibson county TN., which I belive was later named Crockett County TN. Raspberry Peal and Catherine Ferguson may also have ties in NC. Their Children are: Harriet L. Peal , Eugenia E. Peal, George Raspberry Peal, James Henry Peal, Johnathan Franklin Peal, Frances Peal, Robert silvester Peal (Married Anna Badgett they lived in Friendship TN.) Joe Cephas Peal married Eva Irene Brasfield. Also would like to know if anyone has information on Rasberry Peal's line, Raspberry Peal was born december 1st 1813 in williamson county North Carolina but could also be williamson county TN. And died Nov 12, 1885. If anyone has information about of any of these descendants please reply. Thanks.....

Hi michael, (9/12/2000)
My name is Randy Peal and my Great Great Grandfather was James Henry Peal.
He was known as Henry J. Peal, he was R.B Peal's son. There are some
Brasfields in the family. Two that I can think of off hand Ira Brassfield
who married Lula Peal and also Eva Irene Brasfield who married Joe Cephus
Peal. That's the two I can think of off hand. It sounds like we are
definately related. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for the contact. According to my genealogy software "relationship calculator", Eva Irene Brasfield Peal (wife of Josephus Cephas Peal) is a 3rd cousin, once removed. So if you are related to from that union we are probably related also. However, the "calculator" does not show any formal relationship to me through James Henry (Henry J.) Peal or Raspberry B. Peal.
I have information on 2 different Ira Brasfields, but no information on a marriage to "Lula Peal". I would appreciate any information that you would be willing to share on Ira and Lula.
Again, thank you for taking the time to "write".

A source of info for Mayberry & Frances comes from someone named Norma Cory.
Somehow I got in my possession a FGS that was filled out by her. Don't know
where it came from. She lists as her sources, 1850 census of Gundy Co Missouri
and "Marriage Lic". I believe the reference to marriage lic has to do with a
marriage she lists between Mayberry Jr. and Frances Brassfield. Norma has
Elizabeth listed as a child of Mayberry and Frances.

My Grandmother was Frances Gage Brasfield, known to my grandfather Ben Dozier simply as Gage. I've been pretty involved with the genealogy for my paternal line (Brockman). I am going to try to reach out to the matrilineal line now and get some of those cousins together on a myfamily.com site. It seems that they are all from Arkansas for quite a few generations, Clarks, Brasfields, Doziers. I remember my grandfather's Arkansas accent. It was Cajun, sometimes he sounded a bit like the cartoon character Yosemite Sam though of course that accent is exaggerated.
Frances's father was Caleb Mcallister Brasfield, his father was George Boswell Brasfield, his father was William Noffleet Brasfield, then it goes Caleb Brasfield, then 4 George Brasfield(s) in a row if the GEDCOM file from my mother is right then a Thomas Brasfield, and I can only imagine that you must know the tree from that point.
The matrilineal line from my mother have several generations with the middle name Gage, often as an LG or Lizzie Gage or Elizabeth Gage. I am wondering why the name Gage was so conserved. There were some notable historical figures named Gage. There is Caroline Gage the abolitionist/feminist and I believe there was a Colonel Gage on the wrong side of the Revolution fighting for the brits. Then there are the Viscount Gages in the UK.
Regards, Adam Brockman, grandson of Frances Gage Dozier nee Brasfield.

March 11, 1881 DRESDEN DEMOCRAT
ANOTHER LAND MARK GONE
George R. BRASFIELD died at his residence near this place on the morning of the 7th inst. He was born in Granville county, North Carolina, the 19th of February 1823. His father, Caleb BRASFIELD, settled in Weakley County more than fifty years ago, the deceased then being but a child. During the last thirty -five years, Geo. Brasfield has resided in Dresden and vicinity; this immediate neighborhood having been the sole theatre of his useful, active and energetic life, since before he had reached the years of manhood.
The large assembly of friends, aquaintences, and mourning kindred who attended his funeral attested alike, the general high esteem in which he was he, and the wide-spread sympathy felt for his disconsolate family and children; yet, none but those who knew him intimately and well, are familiar with the rare and excellent qualities which gave marked individuality to the man, and assured his extraordinary success during a long and active
business career. Commencing life without fortune, family influence, or eduational advantages, he secured and maintained the highest social success in the accumulation of fortune, which is the result only of great energy, patience, sound judgement and honorable conduct. His whole career was an exemplification of the trite maxim that, ?whatever is
worth doing, is worth doing well?. He believed that every man was created fit for some useful purpose, and that success depended on industry, economy, and will. He was ever among the foremost in whatever required a display of public spirit; he never faltered in
faithfulness or constancy to his friends , or withheld from those he loved the slightest gratification which the hand of a husband, a father, or a friend could bestow. Indeed, his social and domestic virtues were marked features of his life, hence until the failure of his
health many years ago, he was an unrivaled social and political power. There is not an old Whig in this county, who can ever forget the unselfish energy he loyally displayed in upholding its principles and struggling for its triumphs. His career is a monument of
encouragement for all young men of pluck and energy and a standing rebuke to the lazy drones who lament their humble birth and poor opportunities. If Goerge R. Brasfield had done nothing else but to verify the adage, ?Where there is a will there is a way? he would
deserve to live, as he will live, to the affectionate memory of all his surviving friends | BRASFIELD George Robert

Linn County Cemetery
Guy Brasfield. 1868. Infant of Jas. S. & L. Brasfield. Smith and Brasfield ran an early story at Harrisburg. Supposedly it was some members of this family.
This cemetery is listed as "Mansfield" on the ODOT survey; as "Eby" and "Muddy Creek - Mansfield - Keen" on the End of Trail survey, and as "Eby" on the WPA survey. For more than 60 years the property has been owned by the Carl Keen family; for that reason it has been referred to as the "Keen" cemetery. There are no "Keen" burials here, however. A cemetery appears in this township/section on the 1930 Metsker atlas. It is located just south of Harris School, on land owned in 1930 by Hattie Froman. | BRASFIELD Guy

Sir,
Harold Brasfield that you have listed as born on 2 Sep, 1925 and died on 20 Aug, 1999 was my uncle. His full name was Harold Norman Brasfield. He was a decorated WW II veteran who fought in the Pacific. He was a Seebee. I don't know if you can use this info or not.
I am the grand daughter of William Norman Brasfield who died in 1962 in Ensley, Alabama. I understand that his father, James Augustus Brasfield fought in the Civil War in Corinth, MS. If you have any information on this, I would appreciate it.
Currently, I am working with my cousin, George Wright to prove lineage for the Daughters of the Confederacy.
Thank you for your site.

I am trying to do a Family Tree on my Husband's Family--THE BRASFIELDS. I have very little information to go on. My Father in Law's name was Herbert G. Brasfield believed to be born in Kentucky. There may be family in Tennessee. He moved to Clearwater, Florida. Went to Clearwater High School. His parents owned a motel in Clearwater called The Regal. Had a brother named James. My husband is the oldest of the five kids--11/25/45. My father in law passed away in 1972 due to prostrate cancer. If you know anything about the name BRASFIELD please let me know.Thank you Betty
