    • JOHN QUERY (JAMES QUIRY was born December 18, 178314. He married JENNET COWAN 1811 in Belfast, Ireland. Notes for JOHN QUERY: The first Querys we have a record of are John and his wife Mary. They were born in Ireland in 1748 and 1752 respectively. At that time the name was spelled Quiry. Their son John Query was born in 1783 in Ireland and married Jennet Cowan on January 28, 1811, in the county of Antrium, Belfast, Ireland. The pastor who performed the ceremony was Rev. Samuel Smith, Rector of Carmoney Church in Belfast, Ireland. John and his wife migrated to Canada sometime between 1811 and 1818 as their son James was born in Quebec Canada in 1818. This James changed the spelling of the name to Query. We have records of only John and his wife and John`s brother Samuel coming to Canada. Samuel left Canada and came to the United States. He wrote John saying he was moving and was never heard from again. A boat was lost on one of the rivers at that time. John supposed he might have been one of the passengers. John Query was a shoemaker in Ireland but farmed in Canada. He was spoken of as a good, quiet man. John`s son James was 6 foot 1inch tall and was well built. He had a fair complection and redish whiskers. James left Canada with his son Richard and went to the United States. They settled in LaPort County Il. where they were joined by the rest of the family. After living in Illinois , Indiana and Michigan they moved to Douglas township in Adams County, IA. They are buried in the Nodaway Cemetary in Adams County, IA
