Notes - John Moss & Martha Hulen had 4 children: Gertie, Johnnie (f), Marvin & Jessie. Sometime in Jan. 1896, Moss rode into Eufaula, OK to be initiated in to the Masons (1st native-american in the territory to do so), got caught in a rainstorm. As a result, developed pneumonia and died a few days later. On 27 April 1900, Gertie Moss was married to Charles Sherman Brassfield. On 20 May 1900 Gertie's mother Martha Hulen Moss married William Roosevelt Brassfield, Charles Sherman Brassfield's brother. That made William R. Brassfield Martha's husband AND eventually her son-in-law. Gertie's stepfather was also her brother-in-law.
