- W. Lloyd Grady ALTAMONT - W. Lloyd Grady, 87, a former longtime Altamont resident, died at 3:56 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born Oct. 14, 1918, in Carnegie, Okla., to John and Estella (Bonebrake) Grady. At age 1, he moved with his family to Fruita, Colo., where they lived until he was 9. At that time, they moved to Labette County, where he grew up and attended schools. He graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1937. He was an avid musician and graduated from American Conservatory of Music in Chicago in 1942. He worked in Kansas City at North American Aviation Plant from 1942 to 1945. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1948. He taught high school history in Horton from 1948 to 1955. He worked 14 years at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center until retiring in 1981. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Altamont and served as the church organist for many years. He also taught piano and organ lessons. Survivors include two nephews, John Herold and his wife, Rosy, of Lakeville, Ind., and Richard Herold and his wife, Alice, of Hemet, Calif.; a niece, Barbara Thompson and her husband, Bob, of Oklahoma City; two great-nephews; six great-nieces; one great-great-nephew; and one great-great-niece. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Edith Grady, and his twin sister, Ruth Herold. The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Altamont with the Rev. Greg Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Elston Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
