| 10651 | Ship Passenger Lists - the Clifford Sifton (June 12 - August 29, 1899) The Clifford Sifton, a 120-foot long sternwheeler, was built at Bennett in 1898-1899. On July 24, 1900, she was run through Miles Canyon, and worked between Whitehorse and Dawson until 1904, when she was destroyed by ice during spring breakup at Dawson. Shirley is survived by her mother: Polly Jones of Tazewell; two sons: Rick Head of the Dot Community and Chris Brasfield of New Tazewell; one daughter: Brenda Lawson of Dryden, Va; five grandchildren: Chrishina Lawson, Josh Lawson, Misty Head, Javon Brasfield and Alexander Maiden; two great-grandchildren: Cameron Baker and Trent Baker; three brothers: Charles Jones of Lafollette, Bill Jones of Morristown, and Dannie Jones of New Tazewell, one sister: Betty Hatfield of Harrogate; close friend: Arthur Mitchell; also numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 29 at 8 p.m. at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, Va. with Rev. Spurgeon Thompson and Richard Seavers officiating. | 10653 | Shirley Mae Brassfield, 81, died on March 3, 2010 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Her funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Stillwater. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born on November 5, 1928 to Clarence and Emma Crow. She married Earl Edward Brassfield on July 25, 1950 in New Market, Iowa. She graduated from Gravity High school in 1946, Northwestern Missouri State University in Maryville, MO in 1950 with a Business degree, and later received a masters degree in History from Central State University. After school, she helped her husband, Earl, manage promotional campaigns for retail stores throughout the country. Both Earl and Shirley retired to Stillwater, where they volunteered for area charities, such as Karmen Korner, Elite Repeat and the Habitat Restore. She was a seamstress, who created lavish costumes and gowns. She took great joy in creating wardrobes for her daughters, granddaughters, and close friends. She was also a member of the First Christian Church of Stillwater and the Christian Womens Fellowship Group. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Earl Edward Brassfield. She is survived by her son, John Brassfield and wife, Cheryl, of Oklahoma City; her daughters, Marla Day and husband, Dwight, of Manhattan, Kan.; Karen Lott and husband, Danny, of Stillwater six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was born on July 1, 1918, in Monroe County to Cleve and Alma Goodson Waycaster. She attended Greenwood Springs Schools. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County with the exception of living in Abilene, Texas, for a short period of time. She was employed by Glenn Manufacturing and she was a retired ward clerk with Gilmore Memorial Hospital. She was a resident of the Oak Tree Plantation and she was a member of the Amory Church of Christ. She enjoyed needlework and sewing. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Phillip Hathcock officiating. Burial will be in the Lann Cemetery. Survivors include two sisters, Iris Nell "Boots" Weaver of Amory and Doris Brasfield of Aberdeen; one brother, Hank Waycaster (Betty) of Pontotoc; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leroy, Clinton and Harold Waycaster; one sister, Annie Easter. Pallbearers will be men of the Amory Church of Christ. He was a decorated WW II veteran who fought in the Pacific. He was a Seebee. I don't know if you can use this info or not. I am the grand daughter of William Norman Brasfield who died in 1962 in Ensley, Alabama. I understand that his father, James Augustus Brasfield fought in the Civil War in Corinth, MS. If you have any information on this, I would appreciate it. Currently, I am working with my cousin, George Wright to prove lineage for the Daughters of the Confederacy. Thank you for your site.
