Brasfield (deceased), was born in Granville County, N. C., February 19, 1823; son of Caleb and Kate (Jeter) Brasfield. About 1833 Caleb Brasfield came to Weakley County, Tenn., and located in the southern part of the county. He also followed merchandising, in Dresden, a few years. George R. was educated in the common schools of Weakley County, and in October, 1868, married Miss Sallie E. Moore, who was born in Obion County, Tenn., and daughter of James and Jane Moore. Her father died when she vas quite small, and after his death her mother moved to Rutherford County, where she died soon after. To Mr. and Mrs. Brasfield were born four children: George M., Maggie, Jodie and John C. In 1869 Mr. Brasfield bought 217 acres of land near Dresden, and in 1870 erected a fine brick dwelling-house, but was not permitted to enjoy his home long. He died in 1881. He commenced life without fortune or family influence ,but secured and maintained a high social position and a comfortable competency. His whole career has been worthy the admiration of all, and his memory will be held in affectionate remembrance. BRASFIELD died at his residence near this place on the morning of the 7th inst. He was born in Granville county, North Carolina, the 19th of February 1823. His father, Caleb BRASFIELD, settled in Weakley County more than fifty years ago, the deceased then being but a child. During the last thirty -five years, Geo. Brasfield has resided in Dresden and vicinity; this immediate neighborhood having been the sole theatre of his useful, active and energetic life, since before he had reached the years of manhood. The large assembly of friends, aquaintences, and mourning kindred who attended his funeral attested alike, the general high esteem in which he was he, and the wide-spread sympathy felt for his disconsolate family and children; yet, none but those who knew him intimately and well, are familiar with the rare and excellent qualities which gave marked individuality to the man, and assured his extraordinary success during a long and active business career. Commencing life without fortune, family influence, or eduational advantages, he secured and maintained the highest social success in the accumulation of fortune, which is the result only of great energy, patience,sound judgement and honorable conduct. His whole career was an exemplification of the trite maxim that, whatever is worth doing, is worth doing well. He believed that every man was created fit for some useful purpose, and that success depended on industry, economy, and will. He was ever among the foremost in whatever required a display of public spirit; he never faltered in faithfulness or constancy to his friends , or withheld from those he loved the slightest gratification which the hand of a husband, a father, or a friend could bestow. Indeed, his social and domestic virtues were marked features of his life, hence until the failure of his health many years ago, he was an unrivaled social and political power. There is not an old Whig in this county, who can ever forget the unselfish energy he loyally displayed in upholding its principles and struggling for its triumphs. His career is a monument of encouragement for all young men of pluck and energy and a standing rebuke to the lazy drones who lament their humble birth and poor opportunities. If Goerge R. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Pittman Myers and Mattie Mae Brassfield. She is survived by her husband, Teddy Wells of Robinsonville; two sons, Sammy Wells of Cleveland and Jeff Wells and his wife Angie of Oxford; two sisters, Wanda Hall and Hazel McCool, both of Ruleville; three brothers, Bo Myers of Cleveland, James Myers of Ruleville and Jerry Myers of Florence; and one grandchild, Benjamin Wells of Oxford. | 1379 | Barbara M. “Bobbie” Vanderschoot died suddenly but peacefully Aug. 8, 2011, in St. Helena, at age 56. She was born July 28, 1955. Bobbie was the youngest child born to Bill and Barbara Vanderschoot of St. Helena. She is survived by sister, Judy Brassfield, Bakersfield, and Andy Vanderschoot, Napa. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joyce; and brother, Bill. Bobbie attended schools in St. Helena, graduating from St. Helena High School, where she excelled athletically. She greatly enjoyed her time there and the many friends she made growing up. A life-long resident of St. Helena, Bobbie was well known and well liked. Her career included jobs in the banking and wine industry, including jobs at Bank of America, Martini Winery and Casa Nuestra. She will be missed by friends, family and coworkers alike, for her good humor, pleasant manner and easy laughter. Bobbie was comforted by, and appreciative of the support provided by neighbors and friends Mary Hegwood and Terri Wade, and members of the St. Helena Seventh Day Adventist Church, with whom she bonded during the last several years of her life. She was very accomplished in life and had many talents at work and at home. Barbara was a very strong and independent person. She loved the outdoors, crocheting, collectibles and always provided for her family and friends. She was also an active member of the LDS faith. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Douglas Monroe Ricky; son Donald Lee Parsons; daughter Cynthia Lynn Thomas and best friends Millie Adamson and Marie Plumb. She is survived by her four daughters Rebecca Smith, Karen Hasty (Rick A. Lybott), Christina Smith and Donna Parsons; grandchildren Carla, George Jr., Michael Jr., Sterling and Bradley; great grandchildren Ethan, Chase, Tryston, Sheldon, Ireland and Hayden. | 1387 | Bartlett police are trying to solve the mystery of where the baby girl's grave marker belongs after Glen Harckum and his 8-year-old son, Dillon, found it in a ditch. "We took our four-wheeler through some of that undeveloped frontage near Lowe's on Germantown Parkway," said Harckum. "My son spotted the stone and we pulled it out of the dirt." They saw some writing on the stone after they wiped it off. They took it home and scrubbed the letters with a toothbrush to reveal the message: Ruby Louise, daughter of S.J. & Minnie Lee Sorrell, Mar. 25, 1920 to Sept. 5, 1920, Our Darling. Francis Catmur, executive director of Historic Elmwood Cemetery, said it's not unusual for headstones to become dislodged over time. Also, she said sometimes newer ones replace them and the old ones get tossed. Bartlett Police Insp. Steven Johnson said he's contacted local cemeteries to see if the baby is listed in their archives. "We're hoping to find someone who might remember her family so we can get this back where it belongs," Johnson said. Johnson searched records in the Memphis room at the main library to see if she was listed as part of an overgrown, neglected cemetery that sits in the middle of the Wolfchase development explosion. The cemetery is on the north side of U.S. 64 on the west side of Seth's Lighting. Debris and broken limbs have knocked some of the headstones over. Many of them date back to the late 1800s. The baby wasn't part of the cemetery or any of a few others in the area, Johnson said.
