| 1919 | BRIGHAM CITY - Virginia Brasfield, 85, died on January 25, 2011. A funeral service will be held February 5, 2011, 11:00 A.M. at Gillies Funeral Home in Brigham City, with the Reverend Curtis Price conducting. Following the service, a celebration of Virginia's life will be held in her honor at the Eagles Club in Brigham City. Email condolences to www.gilliesfuneralchapel.com. Date of Death: JANUARY 25, 2011 Obituary: Virginia Brasfield June 30, 1925 to January 25, 2011 BRIGHAM CITY - Virginia Brasfield, a fixture in the Brigham City community for more than 50 years, has passed away at the age of 85. Her family and friends surrounded her in the days before she left us and she was valiant all the way up to the end. Virginia was born in Douglas County, Kansas on June 30, 1925 to Clyde and Margaret Baer. She had seven brothers and sisters Pat, Cora, Shirley, Bud, Gene, Marvin and Marlin. After receiving her education in Kansas she travelled west to Southern California where she worked as a telephone operator after World War II. While there she met Fred Brasfield, whom she married on April 27, 1946. In 1947 she had her first child, Sandra Brasfield, and then in 1954 she had her second child Fred Brasfield Jr. In 1958 they moved to Brigham City, Utah where her husband had gotten a job at Thiokol. Virginia worked at Dover Heating and Air for many years, then at Dr. Thomas Hannum’s office. More recently she worked at H&R Block where she finally really retired at the age of 83, although she continued to do taxes pro bono to help her friends out up until the end. In the late 1980’s she moved with her husband to Cocoa Beach, Florida where they lived in a condo on the beach while he worked at Kennedy Space Center. After her husband retired they returned to Brigham, and they could be seen travelling the highways of America in their motor home. They made several trips down South to visit grandkids and visit the homes of their youth. Virginia had many hobbies; most notably in her younger days she was considered quite the Pinochle player and could shuffle a deck better than any Las Vegas blackjack dealer. She was also a fan of playing board games; her favorite was Yahtzee, which she enjoyed playing with her mother and her grandkids. She loved the outdoors and camping, especially at Wade Lake in Montana’s Centennial Valley. She could be seen lounging outside her motor home or trolling the lake in an old aluminum boat, fishing with her husband and grandkids. She will be making her final trip to Wade Lake this summer where she will have her ashes spread alongside her husband in a grove of Aspen trees overlooking Wade Lake’s crystal blue waters. She is preceded in death by her husband Fred Brasfield, daughter Sandra, mother Margaret, father Clyde, sisters Pat and Shirley and brother Bud. She is survived by her son Fred, daughter-in- law Jane, granddaughter Robbin and her husband Curtis, grandsons Jeremy and Trevor and his wife Jennie, great grandson Jack, and great granddaughters Virginia Grace, Addison Makay, and Ivy Jane. A funeral service will be held February 5, 2011, 11:00 A.M. at Gillies Funeral Home in Brigham City, with the Reverend Curtis Price conducting. Following the service, a celebration of Virginia’s life will be held in her honor at the Eagles Club in Brigham City. You will be missed Virginia, the lives you touched were many and your legacy lives on in all those who knew you. You were really something. Rest In Peace. .
