Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Calvary Baptist Church in Yankton with Reverend Jon Cooke officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service and video tribute at 7:00 p.m. Dan J. Mather, age 69, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Calvary Baptist Church in Yankton with Reverend Jon Cooke officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service and video tribute at 7:00 PM. Pallbearers are Keith DeJong, Dave Leonard, Dan B. Mather, Shawn Mather, Eric Moore and Jack Schlicht. Honorary Pallbearers are Donald Campbell, Larry Eilers, Gary Karel, Glenn Knodel, Ron Nyberg and Dr. Morris Radack. Dan was born April 1, 1939, to George and Georgia (McQuatters) Mather in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. He graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1957 and from Morningside College in 1961. Dan served in the Iowa Air National Guard from 1956-1962. He married Rose Mary Stubblefield on December 28, 1962. He worked in the Beef Department at Swift & Co. in Sioux City, Iowa from 1961-1968. In 1968, he joined Burroughs, Inc. as a Sales Representative and transferred to Yankton, South Dakota in 1970. Dan later sold school supplies in southern South Dakota and worked for 30 years with Triangle School Service, Northern School Supply and School Specialty, Inc. In December 2001, he said goodbye to his customers and a career he loved. Dan cherished his Lord and his family. Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf and participated in several sports in high school, college and recreational leagues. He was a driver for Avera Labnet and volunteered as a driver for the Veterans Administration. He also worked with Habitat for Humanity and was involved with many church boards and youth programs. He is survived by wife, Rose Mather of Yankton; two sons, Darin (Susan) of St. Paul, Minnesota and Dell (Cindy) Mather of Apple Valley, Minnesota; four grandsons, Ryan, Micah, Sean and Joseph; brother, Frank (Marilyn) Mather; sister-in-law, Ruth Mather; brother-in-law, Wayne Cunningham; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Ward Mather and sister, Nancy Cunningham. | 2781 | Daniel James Grey April 8, 2010 Daniel James Grey, 81, of Tipperary Hill, Syracuse, died peacefully at Francis House on April 8, 2010, surrounded by his family. Born in New York City to parents, John Grey of County Derry, Ireland and Catherine Campbell of County Tyrone, Ireland, he spent 48 years living in Queens, NY, including Woodside and Douglaston. He was a graduate of Bryant High School, class of 1946 and served in the US Army's 82nd Airborne glider regiment. He graduated from New York University and worked in advertising for many years in Manhattan, for such companies as McCann Erickson, Lever Bros, and Bristol Myers, before relocating to Syracuse, New York to work for Carrier Air Conditioning as a technical writer. He was a church member of St. Charles Borromeo. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. He gave his time as founder and coach of the St. Anastasia's girls track team and later, with his wife, was a hospital volunteer at St. Joseph's Health Center. He was a lifelong Yankees and Giants fan. He was an avid swimmer at Onondaga Community College, had a love of the ocean and treasured his family summers in Watkins Glen. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially watching his grandchildren become friends on family summer vacations. He authored two books including, Not Forgotten, a book which honors and remembers service members who lost their lives in the Persian Gulf War. Dan was predeceased by two dear brothers, John and Harry; his beloved sister, Kathleen; and four of his nephews. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Grace Audrey (McDermott); his six children, Nancy (Charles) Impelizzieri of Mattydale, NY, Carolyn Grey of Augusta, GA, Alison (Paul) Estes of Cincinnati, Ohio, Patricia (Russell) Johnson of Ashland, VA, Linda (Mark) Swan of Tully, NY and Daniel (Kelly) Grey of Fairfield, CT; 19 grandchildren, and siblings, Theresa, Helen, and Michael. Friends may call on Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Edward J. Ryan Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Tipperary Hill, on Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a private burial at the Onondaga County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. Davis b. 7 Jun 1866, Clarissa Jane Davis b. 6 Apr 1868 (died before 1915), Ira Franklin Davis b. 12 Jun 1872, George E. W. Davis b. 2 Mar 1876 (d. before 1915), and Richard Frederic Davis b. 28 Dec 1880. John Davis was a carpenter. In 1910, he moved to Mena, Polk Co., Arkansas. Previously he had lived at several locations in southern IL (e.g Cross Roads, Johnson Co., IL 1883, Eldorado, Saline Co., 1899, Galatia, Saline Co. in 1910 and New Burnside, Johnson Co., IL 1896). John died 10 Apr 1924 at Mena, Arkansas and was buried 11 Apr 1924 at the Oddfellows Cemetery at Mena. Some records refer to her as Mary F. Reavis. Her parents were William -2 Reavis and Mary Pritchard and she was born 1777 in Northampton Co NC. The Will Abstract of NC Wills 1760-1800 is in 1784 makes the reference. The "2" after William Reavis' name indicates to us that he is second generation from the named progenitor Edward Reavis. Although Edward's father may have been in MD/VA, we have no proof as yet so to keeo the jillion Williams, Johns and Jameses and Marys straighter we have added generation numbers. We find an age range that way and can sometimes connect a line by computing how many links are missing. I will send you separately a link to an angelfire site on Reavis family which will have the will in script and possibly transcribed also, I cannot recall, available. The site is a bit jumbled in appearance but this reflects the nascent html capabaility of the owner rather than the quality and breadth of information included. Our Reavis List on rootsweb may have information on Brassfields in the archives because I have worked on them with our main researcher. William-2 married at least twice as far as we know, once in 1747 to Jamry Jordan; some say this is a mistranscription of Mary but I have not seen the record, so.... They had at least nine children. William married Mary Pritchard (d/o John P.) 1760-64 and they had at least seven children including Mary Pritchard-3 1777 Northampton Co NC. She is referred to as "Mary F." in some cases but specifically as Mary Pritchard Reavis in her father's will. We have no death date other than 1840 Buena Vista, Monroe Co IN, bur at Combs Cemetery there, and I know her daughter Abigail married a Combs but have not followed that line. We believe Jesse died about 1826 in Surry Co NC and that they had 9 children. All of the children were born in Northampton co NC, Wm had purchased land in Wake Co couple yrs prior to his death in Northampton co., so most of his chn inherited the land in Wake co and you can trace most of them in that area. Note you have Mary born in France, maybe her mother was, I have no data on her..but for sure Mary m/Brasfield was born in Northampton co NC. " George Brasfield wills to wife Silvany all estate except that which I shall bequeath herein, during her lifetime or widowhood, my children raised and schooled from profits of estate, 2 Negroes, and if she may and have issue to keep Negroes, but if not to my children; and if she marry, I lend her two other Negroes also, choice of stock during her lifetime, then to return to my children; to daughter Mary Brasfield, a Negro slave, horse, saddle and bridle, featherbed and furniture, sow and pigs, chest and table; to daughter Elizabeth Brasfield, a Negro slave, bed & furniture; to daughter Anna and Nancy Brasfield, a Negro and featherbed and furniture, each; to son Caleb, 636 acres and take possession when 21 years old, not interrupting my wife, his mother, during her lifetime thereon, a Negro slave, featherbed and furniture, a horse, bridle and saddle; to daughter Druciller, a Negro, featherbed and furniture; to wife Silvany, in case she marry, 150 acres during her life, to include the dwelling house and spring but not the orchards; all stock of young Negroes divided to my above mentioned children and each receive their share when 21 years old or married; my wife to have 2 horses if she marry again, also 2 featherbeds and furniture, 2 desks and tables and furniture for life."
