| 2809 | DAVID J. WILLCOX AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF NORTH IDAHO EMBRACING NEZ PERCES, IDAHO, LATAH, KOOTENAI, AND SHOSHONE COUNTIES STATE OF IDAHO WESTERN HISTORICAL PUBLISHING COMPANY, 1903 DAVID J. WILLCOX The subject of this sketch manifests in a practical manner the success that can be attained by one of genius and enterprise, who will take hold with his hands to manipulate the resources of this country, since he is blessed with bright success and has made it all by his industry and wise management since first coming to Latah County. David J. was born in Larignal, Ottawa, Canada, on January 1, 1850, being the son of Edwin and Cynthia (Cass) Willcox. The father was a carpenter of Irish extraction, and his grandfather was a physician. Mrs. Willcox was born January 31, 1828, in Ottawa and died July 8, 1895, being one of a family of five boys and ten girls. Her father, Joseph Pomeroy Cass, was born in 1764, and was an English soldier under George Third in the Revolutionary war. He received for his services a grant of land in Canada and our subject now possesses his discharge papers. Our immediate subject had but one brother, Henry now living in British Columbia. David J. was taken by his parents to Winnebago County, Wisconsin, when he was but one year of age, and they took up land and remained there twenty-three years farming. He attended public school and worked on the farm until sixteen years of age and then learned the tinner's trade. Later he went to Minnesota and traveled until 1875 for a wholesale house, at which time he migrated to California and thence to Coos County, Oregon, and engaged with a saw mill company for three years. During that time, in 1877, he came to Latah County and selected his present place, four miles east from Palouse. He returned to Oregon and the following year brought his family to the farm. He has made of the raw piece of land, where he landed without a dollar, a fine farm of two hundred and forty acres, which produces abundant crops of the cereals and is improved in every way possible to make it a valuable rural estate. He has a fine house and doubtless the finest barn in the county of Latah. It cost about three thousand dollars, and has all the conveniences known to modern architecture in barns, with a capacity for stabling thirty-six cows, some horses, seventy-five tons of hay, wagon and carriage rooms, and so forth. Mr. Willcox and Miss Ollie Ross Johnson, adopted daughter of John L. and Viletta Johnson, were married on August 4, 1877, at Marshfield, Oregon. Mrs. Willcox has the following brothers and sisters: Joseph Ross, married and living at Markham, Oregon; Mary, wife of James Markham, at Markham, Oregon; Robert Ross, married and farming near Dayton, Washington; George Ross, married and living in Palouse; Clara, wife of George Foster, and living in Portland. To our subject and his wife there have been born the following children: Edna V., now wife of Fred R. Vowell, she formerly taught school in Latah County, her home now being Easton, Oregon, Alex post-office; Edwin R., living at home and attending school in winter. Mr. Willcox is affiliated with the A. O. U. W. and is one of the leading and substantial men of the county. | WILCOX, David J. (I20127)

| 2818 | Dear Michael, I see that your name is on the geneolgy of the Young/Brassfield page, when I was looking up James young. Do you know any more information on my mother's father, James C. Young? I am trying to put together a scrap book for mother's 80th birthday, which will be in a couple years. Any help would be appreciated. I see that Robert Young and Christina Chalmers were the Grand parents of James Young. Did you know that Marianne Kissack Young just passed away in Seattle? She was 82 years old. Donald Kissack is the only remaining son she has. Her husband died in 1973 and her other two sons, Ian and Lauren passed away. Marianne just died on the 13th of June in the ParkWest Care Center in West Seattle. She had Dymensia, but was a dear woman. We enjoyed going over to visit her while she was there. My name is Judy Rankin Mckinstry. My folks were Ruth and Keith Rankin. They were divorced in 1975 and both are remarried. My mother remarried Wallace Tucker and is currently living near Missoula , Montana and my dad remarried Laura Urbaniach and is living in Rosebud, Montana. He is 80 years old now. I can give you more information, if you'd like, but I'll wait to hear from you. God bless. Sincerely, Mrs. Judy McKinstry 6/23/2002 | YOUNG, Marianne Christine (I9868)

| 2826 | Dear Mr. Brasfield, I just came across your website when I was looking for some information about my great-grandmother Mollie Chiles. She married my great grandfather Dr. Tomas R. (Rufus) Burnham who was from Hamburg Ark at the time of their wedding which took place at Cedar Hall Arkansa on Dec 2, 1886. I think he was in Millissippi at the 1850 census and in Louisiana in a LA census of 1860. He was a graduate of Tulane University Medical School and I think that he and Mollie lived in Jones LA where he was a country doctor. I think Mollie was a school teacher in Jones, LA .Mollie was his second wife and they had two children-- Bonny Kathryn Burnham and Tomas R. Burnham jr who we called Rufie. Mollie Chiles Burnham died on July 28,1915 and her husband Dr. T.R. Burnham died on Nov 10, 1898 after catching a cold after being out in rainy bad weather in his horse and buggy seeing a patient. My grandmother- Bonny Burnham Denham lived with a black woman called Tilda Brasfield and apparently she was a slave that had belonged to Mollie's family or T.R. Burnham's family. Tilda Brasfield died in the mid 1950's and she is buried in Wilmot Arkansa where my grandmother lived. Her brother Rufie Burnham was a dentist in Lake Village AR. So know where it says "unknown Burnham" you can fill in some of this history. Let me know what you think.
