| 671 | A History and Biographical Cyclopaedia of Butler County Ohio, With Illustrations and Sketches of its Representative Men and Pioneers Cincinnati Ohio. Western Biographical Publishing Company, 1882. Oxford Township: Pages 520 - 524 The Christian African Church of Oxford was organized about eighteen years ago. At first this Church met at the colored school-house, but shortly afterwards a frame building was bought of Mr. Constantine McCOWEN, an early member. This building stood on the site now occupied by the present house, but is removed to the rear of it, for festivals and other purposes. The present house, which cost about $3,000, and which has a seating capacity of three hundred people, was completed in 1881. Hannah SCOTT, Hardy SCOTT, Constantine McCOWEN and wife, Isaiah DICSON and wife Sarah, William BRASSFIELD and Mary his wife, Jacob PIATT and wife Maria, Ann WRIGHT, Amanda ANDERSON, Ceburn OLIVER and wife Malinda, Betsey CRAWFORD, Alfred REED and wife Nancy, Ronson DEVINEY and wife Fanny, Maria PRICE, Eliza MITCHELL, Polly TIPTON and George, her husband; Stephen PIATT and Jane, his wife, were among the early members. At present there are about fifty members on the register. The Rev. Rufus CONRAD was the first preacher, and also the organizer of the Church, serving for two or three years. The Rev Isaiah DICSON, who removed to Kansas, and died in 1878, preached for twelve years. The Rev. Benjamin KING, of Cincinnati, filled the pulpit for two years. The Rev. William BROWN, of Kentucky, served as pastor for three years. He is now in Kentucky engaged in ministerial work. The Rev Laban S. LOCKER filled the pastorate for one year. This Church is one of the most enterprising in the village, and bids fair to do much good. | BRASFIELD, William (I18107)

| 672 | A member of the Multinational Peace Keeping Force from Fort Campbell, Kentucky killed in the crash of Arrow Air Flight 1285 in Gander, Newfoundland. 247 lives were lost in the crash. Obituary listed in The News Herald , Panama City Florida. Services were December 28, 1985. Tony was laid to rest at then "Forest Lawn Cemetery" now called Evergreen Memorial Gardens. 2403 Harrison Ave. Panama City Florida. 32405 (850) 769-3396. Tony was scheduled for a later flight. He had called home to say he was trying to get an earlier flight. The earlier flight is the one that crashed. He graduated from Rutherford High School in Panama City in 1984. | 674 | A newspaper article in the Topeka Daily Capital, dated 26 May 1941. In that paper 93-year old Armilda Benning Williams was being interviewed about her childhood as a slave. One paragraph of the article states that "...The now-aged woman was the first of fourteen children born to slave parents, who were owned by a Kentucky woman, Mrs. Jenny Lafferty Brasfield, ("Miss Jenny" to her "people"), who moved with her husband and slaves to Platte County, Missouri, some time before the Civil War. As soon as she was old enough, Armilda served as a housemaid in the big Northwestern Missouri farm home... Miss Jenny had been "raised" by Armilda's mother..." The article indicates that Armilda's grandfather was from Winchester, KY where he "... had saved enough money to buy the freedom of four of his eight children ... but the money to free the other four never came..." The article makes many references to events and locations that were near their home in Missouri. For instance, ".... she (Armilda) remembers hearing the sound of gunfire of the battle -- or skirmish -- of Bee Creek, which was near their Missouri home...." | LAFFERTY, Jane (I16469)

Nv were he succumbed to his injuries. Ray was creamated and his mother carries his ashes. | 681 | AARON FRANKLIN BRASSFIELD This is the story of Aaron Franklin Brassfield as I know it. His birth & death dates from his Civil War Pension (Union) Application show he was born 13 April 1848 at Mt. Judea, Newton County, Arkansas. His father was Abner Brassfield born 1808 in Tennessee. His mother was Lucinda (Cindarella?) Gee born 1812 in Tennessee. They married: 17 April 1828 in Chariton County, Missouri per Early Missouri Marriages by Susan Ormesher. He first married Elizie Jane Standridge ca 1871 in unknown place. Her parents were Alex Standridge (son of Martin Standridge and Catherine Rose Meeks). Elizie Jane's mother was Eliza Ann (unknown maiden name). Elizie Jane Standridge Brassfield died 1884 and is buried in Richland Cemetery, Newton County, Arkansas (per Cemetery Book). Their children were: (1) Sally Brassfield born 1873, probably Searcy Co. AR. She married John Kelse Hallum in 1892 in Newton County. John Kelse was son of Clinton Monroe Hallum and Salina Caroline Tennison. She died 1933 with burial in Haskell, Oklahoma Cemetery (Muskogee County). (2) Elizabeth Brassfield born 1877 married David Freeman in 1894 in Newton County. (3)Lucinda B. Brassfield born 14 March 1878 in Searcy Co., Arkansas Married Charles Kendrall Holt in 1894 in Newton County. (There was more than one Charles K. Holt). (4) Arrena "Rena"Brassfield born 19 Sept 1880 Searcy Co., Arkansas. Married (1) Lewis Hampton on 12 Dec 1894 in Newton County, Arkansas. Her children: (a) Mary Jane Hampton b 12 Sept 1895 Newton County, Arkansas. m: John Samuel Wheeler 10 Mar 1912 #159, Newton County, Arkansas. She died 4 Mar 1975, with burial in Coleman Cemetery, Pope County, Arkansas. (b) George W. Hampton b 27 June 1897 in Newton County, Arkansas. m: Annie J. Dial on 9 Oct 1914 #398 in Newton County, Arkansas. He died 12 Feb 1962 with burial in Coleman Cemetery Pope County, Arkansas. (c) Myrtle b 12 Aug 1899 died 10 Oct 1906. Buried in Pleasant Hill Cem. Newton Coounty, Arkansas. (d) Cora b 1904 m: Lester Adams; unknown date. She d 1933, with burial in Coleman Cemetery Pope County, Arkansas. (e) William Marvin Hampton b 6 July 1907. m: Edna J Adams (daughter of Samuel and Iska Adams) He d: 1 Feb 1983 with burial in Coleman Cemetery Pope County, Arkansas. There are many descendants still living in Newton County, Arkansas. Arrena Brassfield Hampton Married (2) Marion L.(Doc) Davis ca 1918. His father was Benton Davis. His Mother was Mary Ann Blackwood. Their Child: (f) Roy Benton Davis b 25 Apr 1919 Pvt U S Army W W ll d 5 July 1981 with burial in Coleman Cemetery Pope County, Arkansas. There may be other Davis children. Arrena "Irene" died 27 March 1960 and is buried in Coleman Cemetery, Pope County, Arkansas. There were probably more Brassfield children. Aaron moved around alot as I could not seem to locate him with his daughters listed on any census. Aaron claimed he joined the Second Ark. Infantry (Union) during Civil War and enlisted Nov. 1864 at Fayetteville, Ark. and discharged May 1865 at Waldron, Arkansas. His claim was rejected as the War Department could not find a record of him. Aaron Franklin Brassfield married secondly to Mary A Cook, born June 1864. Married 20 Nov 1888, Boone County, Arkansas. He died 27 Feb 1933 in Johnson County, Arkansas and is buried in Richland Cemetery, Newton County, Arkansas (per Cemetery Book). In 1929 Aaron Franklin Brassfield was living in Lamar, Johnson County, Ark. He claims since his discharge from the Service he lived at Mt.Judea and Chancel, Ark. He did not file for a Civil War Pension until 1929 and he stated that his wife Mary Ann Brassfield was living (Mary Ann Cook Brassfield). No indication of where his second wife died or is buried. On "Declaration of Pension" one question states: That a member of his family served in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard of the United States between April 6, 1917 and July 2, 1921, or at any time during said period (if any members of claimant's family were in the military or naval services during the period mentioned, state the full name under which each member served, etc.) and he names James Brassfield. It is not known if James Brassfield was a son or nephew. Aaron's brother and sons lived in Searcy Co. Ark. Most folks believe that his name was Earn Brassfield and he married Mary Jane Standridge and that Earn's father was Thomas Brassfield. Martha Jane's father was General Alec Standridge. This has been handed down for ages. I did not find this to be the case. | 685 | ABERDEEN - Retired U.S. Marine Corps LTC Don Brasfield, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at his home in Aberdeen after a long illness. He was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Smithville to James Paul Brasfield and Cora Crouch Brasfield, who preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County and a graduate of Smithville High School. He joined the U.S. Marines in October 1943. He saw action in Saigon, Tinian and Okinawa, followed by 90 days of occupation duty in North China. After being discharged in 1946, he joined the National Guard, serving until 1986. In later years he was assigned as deputy commander of the 2nd Brigade of the State Defense Force. In civilian life he retired in 1988 from Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp. at Hamilton, where he was personnel manager. After that, he served two-and-a-half years of the unexpired term of a deceased Justice Court judge. He was mayor of Aberdeen in 1991-1996. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at River Bend Baptist Church with Dr. Roy McHenry and Dr. Eldridge Fleming officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Doris Waycaster Brasfield of Aberdeen; one son, Craig Brasfield and wife, Cheryl, of Jackson; one sister, Nell Williams and husband, J.W., of Jackson; one brother, Dane Brasfield and wife, Joyce, of Aberdeen; one granddaughter, Georgia; one grandson, Paul; nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Herman Hester, Locke Stockton, James Burrows, Harry Stewart, Arnold Richardson and Kelly Tucker. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Sunday School Class at River Bend Baptist Church, Sonny Long, Ralph Bradley and Clyde Hampton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi Inc., 16 Northtown Drive, Suite 100, Jackson, MS 39211-3058; or a charity of the donor's choice. | BRASFIELD, James Donald (I35775)
