Sunday, March 26, 1916 Eight Victims of Wind Storm in Murray County Davis, March 25-- Members of the family of ALEX EDGMON were killed in a storm which swept across a section of Murray County some 3 or 4 miles east of here last night shortly after 9 p.m. The storm moved in a northeasterly direction accompanied by a heavy fall of rain and hail. ALEX EDGMON, head of the family, escaped death, having gone to see after his stock when the tornado struck the home which was a box house. The victims are: MRS. ALEX EDGMON 50, ALONZO EDGMON 18, SAM EDGMON 14, PETE EDGMON 30, MRS. PETE EDGMON and two children of Mr. and Mrs. PETE EDGMON, and MRS. HANNAH THOMAS, age 80, mother of MRS. ALEX EDGMON, who was totally blind. The family of REV. H. D. LOW escaped injury although their home was demolished, the family having taken refuge in the storm house. Several other farm houses in the path of the storm were destroyed? Nearly Chigley, L. O. FRANKLIN and wife were both injured, Mr. Franklin sustaining a broken arm and leg. A little girl of the young Edgmons was visiting at the home of a neighbor at the time of the storm and escaped. She was born 4/30/1913, I know that William Matthew Brassfield died long before she was born. She was however born to Sarah Elizabeth Brassfield and given the Brassfield name. She didn't learn that she was not a true Brassfield until she was in her late 40s. I believe she knew that Mr. Brassfield died before she was born but didn't know when he died until as I said her late 40s. My Uncle Evans told her and she actually found her biological fathers family before she died. We have always considered her to be a Brassfield since all her siblings were and she was raised as one. Hope this clears up any questions you have. Now if you have any clue as to who John Bennett ( the biological) father may have been I would appreciate knowing myself. She married Jeremiah Emmons Dec. 29, 1868. Their first child Walter was born in Iowa and died in Butler Co. Ks. at age 5 months. Cause of death was "croup". Do you have any information on Sarah. She died 7 Feb. 1875. We think she was buried in the Palestine Cemetery in Sumner Co. Ks. This cemetery was just across the river from the farm where they lived. Goss/ Brasfield genealogy Dear Michael, I am interested in learning more about William S. Goss and Ann E. Clements. Although the census shows that they had a son named Cornelius, I thoroughly believe "he" was my great-grandmother Cornelia Jessie (or maybe Jessie Cornelia) Goss McPherson Gibson. My grandfather was William Malcolm McPherson and his mother was reported to have been born in Greene County, AL abt 1865. She was married to Alexander A. McPherson and had 4 children survive to adulthood. After he died she was married to Sylvanus B Gibson and had one child. They were living in the mining region east of Tuscaloosa, AL. AA and Cornelia are buried at the Coaling Cemetery along with 4 infants and one of his sisters. I haven't looked over your site yet, but I saw that W S's mother is your Brasfield interest. I am assisting my wife's father, Virgil Grantham, in his efforts. His mother is Mamie Brassfield, 98 years old and alive and well. We visited this week in Oklahoma. The current focus is on any information relative to her mother, Molly Ford, wife of George Brassfield. They married in 1906 I believe in Scipio, Indian Territory. Mamie said Molly's father was George Ford but she was less sure of Molly Ford Brassfield's mother, believing her name was Samantha and that she was called Mancy. She said Samantha Ford had a tombstone in the Brooken OK cemetery (perhaps covered now by Lake Eufaula). She said George Ford said they were French and Choctaw, coming from Jackson Miss by way of Arkansas before going to Oklahoma. She said her father George Brassfield met her mother as he worked on the Brassfield ferry over the North Canadian river and she was a passenger. any information on Molly Ford or others in the Ford line?
