Bert Brassfield, nephew of Fred Hammer, well known here passed away in a Peoria hospital Sunday after a prolonged illness. He resided in Rome for the past several years. He was born in Peoria March 28, 1895, the son of Jonathan and Sadie Cooper Brassfield. His mother was a member of the Cooper family, who were among the early pioneers of Dunlap.He was a stationary engineer for the Pabst Brewing Co. for 17 years before ill health forced him to retire 18 months ago. He was a Navy veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion Post in Chillicothe. Surviving are his wife; his mother; two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Ristrich and Mrs. Martha Mason both of Peoria; two brothers, Jonathan of the Canal Zone and Mercel of Venezuela; one sister, Mrs. Reva Whittaker and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held with Rev. G. L. Messenger of the Glen Oak Christian church officiating. He was laid to rest in the American Legion Hill in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.

9288 NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Bethia "Bettie" Green Brasfield, 89, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004 at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Very Rev. Zabron A. Davis III officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Mrs. Brasfield was born May 18, 1915, in New York City, the daughter of the late Anne Young Green and John Taylor Green.

She attended Stuart Hall in Stanton, Va. and later graduated from Natchez High School. She received a BA degree from Louisiana State University in English. She was a legal secretary in Natchez for many years and also served as Chancery Court Administrator for five Adams/Jefferson County Chancery Court Judges, until her retirement.

She was a life long Episcopalian and member of St. Cecelia Group.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert G. Brasfield; one brother, Waller Overton Green.

Survivors include a brother, John Taylor Green Jr. of Natchez; niece, Ann Green Carver of Raleigh, N. C.; and many cousins in the Carpenter and Feltus families.

The family request, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
