***************

Michael,

I have an obituary for Mrs. Emma Peters, identified as the daughter of Charley and Leah Brassfield, born 17 May 1863, Sullivan Co, MO. Emma, who I believe to be Lucinda Emeline, died 2 Jul 1943 in Ottumwa, Iowa. This obituary identifies first husband as Will Link, second to W. A. McClaskey, and later George Peters (who died Jul 1934). She is buried at the Camp Ground Cemetery near Osgood, Missouri. I note this information regarding Leah after noting your entry of her name as Ceir Brown Brassfield.

In Jul 1860, Charles and Leah with children Mary and Granville, were living in Liberty Township, Grundy, MO. Sometime before Aug 1870, they were living in Bowman Township, Sullivan, MO with all their children (living next door to to my GGG and GG Grandmothers). After the death of Charles, Leah and children moved in with her brother Isaac Brown in Bowman Township, Sullivan, MO. Isaac Brown was my GGG Uncle, being the brother of my GGG Grandmother, America Brown Surratt. On the 1880 Census, Leah is identified as the sister of Isaac Brown.

Isaac, Leah, and America are all children of Reuben Brown and Mary Ann Wiley.

Leah's full name is believed to be Leah Catherine Brown and was born in Sangamon, IL.

William Hansford Link was the son of Uriah Link and Malinda Lamar (first wife).

To try to put this together, Uriah Link married his second wife, Mary Ellen Surratt, the daughter of America Brown and John Surratt.

William married his step-mother's cousin.

8055 Lucy (3 Feb 1903) was Lucille. She married Walter Lyall Willett (28 May 1901 Grampian PA - 24 Dec 1982 Portland OR) on 16 Jun 1922. Do you know where? Their son was John Richard (probably) Willett (22 Apr 1923). I have see the Washington State birth index (she was spelled Branfield). John Richard is a 1st cousin to my wife. Do you know where he is located or what his last name is (Willett or Reddington?). Hal Antonson BRASSFIELD, Lucille Maybelle (I1544)

8056 Lucy Ann Brassfield, daughter of Othnal Minter Brassfield was born about 1842 in Grundy County MO.

She married Alexander Usher in 1855 in Wright County IA.

She married James Hartley Lamson in about 1865 and was living in MN and IA. She crossed the plains in 1877 to Umatilla County OR.

In 1879 she married Thomas Ryan in Walla Walla WA. Her daughter Cora lived in Weston OR and married John W. Brassfield in 1885.

Lucy disappeared around 1900, cannot be found on the 1900 or 1910 census. She sold property in 1900 and in 1904, still signing her name as Lucy Ryan.

I'm hoping someone has some information about this lady who is my great grandmother.

Thanks,
John Brassfield

Posted by Elizabeth Taylor Woods on Sun, 23 Apr 2000

Surname: BRASFIELD, JAMES, TAYLOR

I am looking for info on SARA CANDIS (perhaps BRASFIELD).
She married Harvey Taylor in TENN. Was listed on the 1880 Census report for Obion County Tenn married to Harvey with (1) child Minnie. Then they were listed in the 1900 census report for Dyer County Tenn Fowlkes with (8) children(Minnie, Birt, James Augness, Albert Brasfield, Hubbard, Oliver, Newton Howard and Clifford Harvey). I never found any other info on Sara or HArvey. I think that Sara'a maiden name may have been BRASFIELD since my grandfather's middle name is BRASFIELD. They did that alo back then. If any of these people sound familiar, please let me know.
Thanks in advance,

Sunday, April 9, 2000 -- I am looking for any info on Sara Candis James and her husband Harvey Taylor. She was born in Nov 1862 in Tenn and Harvey was born in Nov 1861 in Tenn also. I first found them listed on the 1880 census report for Obion County Tenn and were married with (1) child Minnie. He also had a brother living with him named Matt who was born in about 1854. They stated that her father and Harvey's father were both from N Carolina. I don't have any other info on their families. I later found them listed on the 1900 census report for Dyer County Tenn Fowlkes with (8) children Minnie, Birt, Albert Brasfield(my grandfather), James Augness, Dixie(Nancy Caroline), Hubbard, Oliver, Newton Howard, and Clifford Harvey. The children were in Dunklin County Missouri in 1910, but nothing on the parents. If any of these people ring a bell, please let me know. I have been at a standstill for a long time. Thanks, Elizabeth Taylor Woods etaywoods@hotmail.com

8091 Many hearts were made sad last Saturday morning when the news was revealed of the death of Mrs. Marvin Schmitz (Laura Lorene Beatrice McCammon Schmitz) at her home in the Air Mount Section. Although no hopes has been held out for Mrs. Schmitz since her return from the Magee Sanitorium in December, friends and loved one were grieved to hear of her death.
Mrs. Schmitz was Miss Lorene McCammon before she married in November 1919. Mrs. Schmitz was a loving Mother, a faithful wife and a good friend to all.
